RSS Spam Problem Fixed

I found the immediate cause of the Google Reader spam problem, thanks to this thread.  It turns out that someone was able to get a hacked entry into the database (specifically, into the wp_options table).  The important parts of the entry look like this: ;))”==QfK0wOpcyMyEzbo [... lots more gibberish-looking stuff, which is actually base64_encode()'d stuff] [...]

Google Hacked? RSS Spam? What the…

How in Sir Tim Berners-Lee’s name did this happen? My previous post on this site, the one that announces our next gig in August, reads just fine on the site.  It even looks good on Facebook, where I have the auto-blog-post-thingy enabled.  But you should see how it reads in Google Reader: Natural Avodart Herbal [...]

How Can a Simple Software Update Make Me Happy?

Here’s how:

The Persistence of Time (or lack thereof)

I’m in a grade dispute with a student right now, and even though I have no reason not to trust her, I feel like she’s trying to pull a fast one on me. There was an assignment due on Thursday, March 5th, at 2:30 PM.  We were still in Eastern Standard Time then, and would [...]

About The Mets

Carrie’s on a train into the city to meet her mom and her brother, to navigate them through Penn Station for their Mother’s Day visit. I should be writing final exams, but Jack is up and squirming, so I’m watching him. This doesn’t leave a lot of opportunity to think and type, but it’s a [...]

Some Updates

It’s A Boy!

I’ll have lots of details — and pictures! — later, but John Pierce Merlo was born today at 8:17 pm.  He was 7 pounds, 7 ounces at birth, and 20.5 inches long.  The one picture I was able to upload is here: http://twitpic.com/2qs3p More later!

Out Like A Lion, Too

At least the weather has let up.  I haven’t had a lot of down time as March comes to a close.  First, and most importantly, Carrie is doing well: Although she is currently at the hospital overnight, awaiting the results of some blood tests.  I don’t think the boy is coming today, but I suppose [...]

In Like A Lion

It’s the first day of March, and we’re in the beginning stages of what’s supposed to be a huge snowstorm.  They’re predicting so much snow that school has already been canceled for tomorrow.  My hope is that this month continues the cliched tradition, and goes out like a lamb, because Carrie and I have some [...]
